Hierbei spielen vor allem Sozialisationsvorgänge, der Prozess des Outings, die Veränderungen nach dem Outing sowie Problemlagen und Lebensbewältigung eine zentrale Rolle. Die Grounded Theory dient in dieser Arbeit als Forschungsstil, der sich durch eine zirkuläre Arbeitsweise charakterisiert.

Ziel hierbei ist es, aus dem empirisch gewonnen Material eine Theorie zu schaffen. Das narrative Interview fungiert in dieser Arbeit als primäre Befragungsmethode und ermöglicht dadurch einen Zugang zu den sozialen Wirklichkeiten der Befragten. Ein weiteres wichtiges Ergebnis der Arbeit zeigt dass die Zugehörigkeit zu einer Gruppe für Homosexuellen in der Bewältigung von Problemlagen eine wichtige Ressource darstellt und zur Stärkung des Selbstwertgefühls und der Identitätsbildung beiträgt.

Weiters sind homosexuelle Männer und Frauen überwiegend mit den gleichen Schwierigkeiten und Herausforderungen konfrontiert, die vorwiegend aus den Norm- und Verhaltensvorstellungen der heterosexuellen Mehrheit resultiert. Zur Bewältigung dieser werden von Homosexuellen unterschiedliche Strategien und Vorgehensweisen entwickelt.

The aim is to find access to social reality and illustrate the different life stories with respect to different aspects like the process of the outing, changes after the outing, the process of socialization and dealing with problems occuring before and after the outing in all-day life.

Grounded Theory is chosen as research methodology were empirical data is analized to construct a theory. The primary interview technique is the narrative interview to gain access the the social realities of the interviewees. This work shows that the process of the outing plays a major role in the different biographies of homosexual women or men although each individual person experiences and deals with it differently.

The importance of being part of a group is another significant result of this work. Gaining access or being part of groups is a very important ressource to deal with occuring all-day problems regarding homosexuality and to develop self-esteem and identity. The problems given by behaviour of the heterosexual majority which homosexual women and men are facing are nearly the same but the developed strategies to cope with these problems are as different as there are people.
